Lynn and Ryan’s Classic Wedding at The Murphy Building in Chicago
Lynn and Ryan’s wedding consisted of a couple of firsts for me: First Downtown Chicago Wedding and first time shooting film at a wedding. For those of you that know me, or follow me on facebook, you’ll know that I’ve been shooting a bit more film for my personal work. Well, I asked Lynn and Ryan if they would be willing to let me cross the divide from only shooting film in a personal setting, to shooting some in a professional setting. Luckily, they were on board and enthusiastic. You’ll find, scattered through this post, some polaroids and some film shot on a Rolleiflex from the 1950s (just look for the shots with borders and the square shots).
So much of what makes me happy about this job is regularly being able to put myself outside of my comfort zone, and film is just the latest way I’ve started to do so. There’s something about slowing down, getting a reading from my light meter, manually focusing, looking down to compose, and then exhaling and pressing the shutter that is foreign and exciting to someone like me who has only ever shot digital. I know that this wedding is the beginning of a new way of relating to my work, the start of a new journey, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
Lynn and Ryan, thanks for being on board.
